Strategic Thinking for Leaders in a Tactical World is an innovative approach to aligning your organization to your goals – learning how to ‘walk the talk’. Using the ‘Five Levers’ approach, we will share how Markon has maintained 12 consecutive years of profitable growth in the highly competitive public sector, while many of their competitors have struggled. This interactive session will engage session attendees through the strategies behind decision making and trade-off analysis. Through a case study, we will experience the challenges of growing a successful enterprise, maintaining high quality benefits, and providing customer value while nurturing a great culture and a strong reputation.

Steve Genn has over 25 years of program and project management experience. He leads Markon’s DoD portfolio, including OSD, USMC and WHS. In addition to Defense, Steve has supported clients in the IC, federal civilian, and commercial healthcare markets. He co-developed and facilitates Markon’s Leadership Development Programs.

Steve previously worked at PwC, Cardinal Health, and several highly regarded management consulting firms. He received his MBA from Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business and a BA from LSU, where he was commissioned through Air Force ROTC. Steve's military service included active duty as an Air Force Air Battle Manager, during which he flew missions in Desert Storm. He retired as a Colonel from the Air Force Reserves.

A certified executive coach, Steve combines his leadership skills and experience with his passion for developing rising executives.  He frequently blogs on leadership development and previously presented to CMAA, JETC and the National Contract Management Association.  Steve currently holds the Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential and is a Board-Certified Executive Coach (BCC), as well as a certified Myers-Briggs practitioner.

Scotte MacQueen leads Markon’s Training Solution with the responsibility for connecting, educating, and inspiring fellow government contracting, small business professionals. Scotte and his cohort of subject matter experts, facilitators, and instructors are aggregated from Markon’s six core service areas: facilities management, security consulting, financial management, acquisitions & procurement management, enterprise technology management, and training.

Scotte’s 18 years of training and expertise in design and construction program and project management is complimented by his zeal for higher education mentoring and graduate school instruction. It is through the Markon Training Solution that Scotte is best able to employ his skills to shape and promote external training programs.

Scotte holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Kansas. His certifications include Project Management Professional, Certified Construction Manager, and Facility Management Professional. He earned the 2017 Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Capital Chapter annual award for Individual Excellence in Construction Management. Scotte was presented with Markon’s Client Services Award in 2015. Scotte joined Markon in 2012.
