Loudoun SHRM is a 100% Affiliate Chapter of SHRM. This means you must first be a member in good standing with National SHRM before you are eligible to apply for membership with Loudoun SHRM. If you are already a member of SHRM, we invite you to become a member of our affiliate chapter by adding dual membership to your National SHRM account and selecting Loudoun SHRM as your primary chapter.

What are the differences between National SHRM and Loudoun SHRM?

National SHRM is a global professional society for HR professionals. Loudoun SHRM is a local, SHRM-affiliated chapter whose service area encompasses the Loudoun County, VA. While the mission and goals are complementary, they are slightly different.

National SHRM's mission is to provide education, thought leadership, certification, community and advocacy to enhance the practice of human resource management and the effectiveness of HR professionals in the organizations and communities they serve.

Loudoun SHRM's mission is to serve our members and the Loudoun County community by promoting meaningful, long-lasting professional relationships and career growth; provide broad-based, superior quality programs on relevant and emerging topics; offer opportunities to develop as impactful business and volunteer leaders; and support and advance HR practitioners as vital strategic partners for organizations.

Can I belong to more than one local chapter at a time?

Yes! You can belong to more than one local chapter. However, only your primary chapter will be affiliated to SHRM. Please be sure to designate Loudoun SHRM as your primary chapter.

I am already a member of National SHRM. What can the Loudoun chapter offer me in addition to my National SHRM membership?

Being a local chapter member provides you with a local networking resource. You have the benefit of meeting other local professionals who are facing the same challenges that you are and can assist you with answers to your questions. You will receive invitations to Loudoun SHRM meetings, seminars, and professional development opportunities. The majority of our programs have been approved for SHRM certification credits, and we typically host over 10 events throughout the year. Additionally, there are leadership and volunteer opportunities to assist in your professional development and to give back to the HR community.

Why should I join National SHRM when Loudoun SHRM gives me all I need?

Joining the Loudoun SHRM chapter requires membership in National SHRM.

When does the dual membership partnership between Loudoun SHRM and National SHRM take effect?

Chapter membership is good for 12 months from the date you join and is renewed annually. Chapter membership expires at the same time as your current SHRM membership, regardless of enrollment date. Any applicable Chapter dues will be prorated based on the number of months remaining on your current SHRM membership.

How much will the total membership transaction cost me?

Membership dues vary depending on the type of membership chosen. You will have the option to chose a 1-year, 2-year or 3-year package. 

How will I pay for my membership?

You can join or renew both a SHRM national membership and a SHRM affiliated local chapter membership together through dual membership. Dual membership provides SHRM members and existing dual members the ability to obtain and renew both memberships in the same transaction.

What if my National SHRM and Loudoun SHRM membership expire at different times?

It is our goal to align your National and Loudoun SHRM memberships to renew and expire on the same date. If you have already paid Loudoun SHRM dues recently but need to renew your National SHRM membership, you will be offered a credit if it is due to you. If you underpaid, you will receive an additional invoice from Loudoun SHRM. Your following membership renewals will then be at the regular price and your expiration date will be the same for both organizations.

How does National SHRM and Loudoun SHRM identify me?

Your access to Loudoun SHRM is separate from your National SHRM account. Once you have made Loudoun SHRM your primary affiliate chapter, we will send you an email containing your Loudoun SHRM account details. If you have not received this email or if you have trouble registering or accessing your Loudoun SHRM account, please contact us for assistance. We highly encourage you to use the same email address for your National SHRM and your Loudoun SHRM accounts.
